Melbourne Developments
The tree diagram and connecting timeline present building developments completed in the City of Melbourne between 2014-2023, with floor space intended for retail, offices and education.
The visualisation shows that most development was in the CDB and Docklands. Office space had the largest amount of development, particularly in the CBD and Docklands. In 2016 and 2018 there was no office development in the CBD, but construction still occurred elsewhere, particularly Docklands.
Other than CBD and Docklands, retail space development was common in Southbank, West Melbourne and Carlton, with 2021 being a busy year despite the early pandemic. Education floor space was mainly added in Parkville up to 2018, but then shifted to projects in the surrounding suburbs and Docklands.
Hovering over the intersections in the tree and timeline will provide additional information about the floor type and numbers of developments each year.
